Case transmission in Classical Latin control structures: Between syntax and morphology

چکیده
Latin nonfinite structures with nonovert subjects exhibit puzzling properties regard to the case- and ϕ-features of their relationship overt NPs in matrix clauses. While transmission ϕ-feature related is obligatory when there a nominative or accusative controller NP, it only that remains dative controller, case being apparently optional. To avoid an assumption syntactic optionality, accounts phenomenon which rely on mechanisms propose apparent optionality reflects difference between two types structures. It instead proposed linking objects via Agree should be assigned different components grammar, syntax morphology. The hypothesis allows unified treatment control Latin.

Integrating Classical Sindarin Morphology and Syntax using XFST and XLE
Sindarin is a constructed language invented by the author and linguist J.R.R. Tolkien. It is the language spoken by the Elves. Though the number of complete sindarin sentences is rather limited[1] enough information is available to derive syntactic rules and build a Sindarin grammar. This project aims at modelling the basics of Classical Sindarin grammar in LFG using Xerox XLE system. In additi...
متن کاملMismatches between Morphology and Syntax in First Language Acquisition
In this paper we discuss experimental data from three different production studies conducted at the Cornell Language Acquisition Lab (CLAL). The three studies used the elicited imitation method; two of them tested English-speaking children and the third one tested German-speaking children (see Table 1 below). We also discuss data from natural speech studies conducted in different languages and ...
متن کاملChains in Syntax and Morphology
This paper argues for the existence of a deeper and more primitive structural unit of syntax and morphology than the constituent. Data from ellipsis, idiom formation, predicate complexes, bracketing paradoxes, and multiple auxiliary constructions challenge constituency-based analyses. In chain-based dependency grammar, however, constituents are seen as complete components. Components are units ...
متن کاملQuantum Lambda Calculi with Classical Control: Syntax and Expressive Power
We study an untyped λ–calculus with quantum data and classical control. This work stems from previous proposals by Selinger and Valiron and by Van Tonder. We focus on syntax and expressiveness, rather than (denotational) semantics. We prove subject reduction, confluence and a standardization theorem. Moreover, we prove the computational equivalence of the proposed calculus with a suitable class...
